Ursula makes dolls out of fur, seal gut, seal skin, beads. She also makes leather gloves with beaver and wolf fur. At age 10, she began learning to sew traditional Cup'ik Eskimo dolls from her mother, Rosalie Paniyak, a master doll-maker from Chevak, and her grandmother, Mary Kokrak, an accomplished skin-sewer. Ursula has produced dolls and refined methods and materials for more than three decades. She is inspired by modern Native life in her village of Chevak, she tries to make her dolls as realistic as possible, and primarily concentrate on elderly women, mothers and children.
