As Ben Attatayuk grew up, he was fascinated with the art work that his grand-parents made with what little tools they had. He was raised by his grand parents in a subsistence life style. They showed him places to gather native foods and he would absorb the scenery so he can use this for his artwork as he grew up. When he was a kid he would try and draw or carve on wood whenever the thought occurred. After his biological grand-parents passed on, he moved to Brevig Mission and discovered how scenic and mountain-ness it was and he thought about putting it on ivory, since then, this has been his main style of artwork. When ivory was scarce, he tried to sew with his wife. This also became popular and he was selling them to the skin sewers. He has also done this with whale bone. Ben Attatayuk would like to thank his grand-parents and the other elders for what they have taught him.
