Luke has been weaving since 1945. Luke was taught by Fred Oktollik of Point Hope. He mimicked Fred's basket weaving until he developed his own style of weaving. Luke practices all types of native crafting, from earrings and bracelets, to masks and ivory animals. Luke's baskets are easily recognized by the shape and weave; he primarily creates oval shaped baskets with a distinctive weave. Luke has used the walrus, polar bear, whale tail and eagle as tops for his baskets.
