Over at The Street Alison Stein Wellner mentions little old Alaska Native Arts Foundation in her story "Vacation in Alaska, Where a Dollar's Still a Dollar." Check us out.
Elizabeth Bluemink at the Anchorage Daily News has written a series about the ups, downs and unique challenges of doing business in rural Alaska, and it's running this week. Monday introduced the series with "Currency bypasses businesses in the Bush," and today they continued with "Village setbacks generate success stories." Inspired and informed by a collaborative research project called "Viable Business Enterprises for Rural Alaska," the series continues through Thursday.
It's exciting to see several Alaska Native artists and arts groups mentioned on the "success stories" page at the research project's website; look for Dean Kulowiyi, Lena Amason, Sulianich Art Center, and Nunivak Arts and Crafts. These are great little windows into the lives of Alaska Native artists and arts organizations.
